Many – if not all – of today’s Hodgson Vo-Tech High School students will be graduates by the time a new school at the Glasgow campus is completed. But, some of them took part in Friday’s ceremonial groundbreaking.

The current Hodgson building started as a shared-use building, and while it served for the community for many years it lacked some standard amenities: adequate windows, and an auditorium, just to name two.
New Castle County Vo-Tech District Superintendent Joseph Jones said that made it challenging to hold any sort of student assembly.
“This changes that whole dynamic and helps us build a school community that we need, with always career and tech at the center,” Jones said.
New athletic fields are also part of the construction plan. The new Hodgson Vo-Tech High School is expected to be ready in about four years.
“Our new building will enable us to evolve and grow, to reflect the growing needs of our students and our community,” New Castle County Vo-Tech Board of Education President Yvette Santiago said.
According to Jones, plans were presented for a new building several years ago, but are now finalized, with funding in place as well.
“Our times of growth, maturity and memories made will always undoubtedly hold a special place in all of our hearts, but while the goodbye may be bittersweet, as they say it is time to be out with the old and in with the new,” Vo-Tech student Maiss Hussein said.
