Chris Batley will be walking around Hollingworth Lake for charity for her 90th birthday
Chris Batley will be celebrating her 90th birthday this year with a sponsored walk for Cancer Research UK and The Salvation Army.
Once an avid hill walker, Chris is now very limited in the amount of walking that she can do, but still enjoys getting out in the fresh air to stretch her legs a little for the short distances that she can manage.
The Milnrow resident hopes to raise £1,000 by walking at least one 2.4-mile lap of Hollingworth Lake on 6 October.
Chris has chosen the two charities as she has lost close family members to cancer, as well as many friends, and also survived it herself in 2018.
She has also supported the work of The Salvation Army, admiring of the impressive work that they do.
Her son-in-law, local photographer Howard Wilkinson said: “This is going to be quite an achievement.
“Chris is asking for people to sponsor her for her efforts to help raise funds for the above charities and, secondly, to come join her for the walk and cheer her on, finishing off with a brew.”
Chris will set off from Hollingworth Lake from the main car park at 10am on Friday 6 October.
