July 1 2024
Midlothian Council has partnered with the University of Edinburgh to deliver a replacement Beeslack High in Bilston.
The 1,600-place school will combine an additional support needs facility and a veterinary practice, currently housed within The University of Edinburgh’s Hospital of Small Animals at the adjacent Easter Bush campus.
Linking the new school to industry and academia the pairing will deliver a hi-tech school that includes an outdoor dining area, swimming pool and sports centre with out-of-hours public access. The Architype-designed school is split between teaching, arrivals and sports, highlighted through contrasting brick and metal cladding.
The additional needs component of the build will take the form of a standalone structure.
Setting the school apart from others will be the integration of the Dick Vet General Practice in a dedicated home designed by AtkinsRealis that will [rovide an additional teaching resource for students.
