iPhone 15 series rejuvenates US smartphone market in latest quarter – Notebookcheck.net

The new iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are credited with shoring the US smartphone market up practically single-handedly in the third quarter of 2023 (3Q2023), launching just in time to boost its total shipments to 31 million, or 21% more than in 2Q2023, according to Canalys’ latest report.
Then again, Motorola was also found to have its best quarter since 2Q2022 in the US, contributing 2.8 million shipments (or 14% more year-on-year (YoY)). The OEM rose to third in the market with a share of 9% behind Samsung (22%) and Apple (55%), despite the fact that both larger companies saw a drop in sales of 12% and 8% respectively.
Accordingly, Canalys still finds the US smartphone arena "sluggish" thus far in 2023, as it shrank by 5% overall compared to 3Q2022. Therefore, if Apple wants to see any actual YoY gains before 2024, its final quarter is its best bet, as the iPhone 15 series gears up to make the most of its first major holiday season.
Finally, TCL was able to hold Google off to retain the #4 position in the US smartphone market despite a 115% surge in shipments on the part of the latter thanks to its latest Pixel-series offerings.
