Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro bezel Vs iPhone 14 Pro
09/07 Update below. This post was originally published on September 4
iPhone 15 leaks have exposed almost every detail about Apple’s new iPhones, but now one more surprising detail has now been revealed.
In a new post, leaker Majin Bu states that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will only have a 4,422 mAh battery, despite recent reports claiming that Apple would introduce a massive 4,852 mAh unit. While this is only a small increase compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max (4,323 mAh), it could still have an outsized impact.
The reason for this is twofold. First, Apple’s switch to a 3nm fabrication process for the A17 chip, which is coming to both iPhone 15 Pro models. The jump to 3nm will allow the chip to run faster, cooler and more power efficiently, with analysts claiming it could boost battery life by as much as 20%.
Second, leaks claim the entire iPhone 15 range will move to stacked battery technology, a world first for smartphones. Stacked batteries are already widely used in the aerospace, aviation and electric car industries and offer improved efficiency, cooler temperatures and greater longevity.

Consequently, while a big increase in battery capacity is always welcome, any physical capacity bump is really just a bonus — and it looks like iPhone 15 Pro Max buyers will get one.
Moreover, rivals are unlikely to catch up to Apple’s main advantages any time soon. Only Samsung is in a position to offer stacked battery tech, while Apple has reportedly secured TSMC’s entire supply of 3nm chips for their first year of production.
Looking for more reasons to upgrade? iPhone 15 Pro models are also expected to move from stainless steel to a stronger, lighter titanium chassis with a programmable Action Button, introduce USB-C ports capable of Thunderbolt 4 speeds and break records with super slim new bezels. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will also exclusively launch with Apple’s first periscope zoom camera.
On the flip side, prices are going up, which may tempt you towards the iPhone 14 Pro-inspired iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. My tip? If you don’t need to upgrade, wait for the bigger changes coming to the iPhone 16 lineup in 2024.
09/06 Update: For those in two minds about upgrading to the iPhone 15 series, Majin Bu has returned with information about Apple’s 2024 iPhone plans. The insider doubles down on earlier claims that the range will increase in size, with the iPhone 16 Pro models jumping from 6.1 and 6.7-inches to 6.3 and 6.9-inches.
The motivation for this is said to come from Apple’s determination to fit the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s exclusive periscopic zoom camera into both Pro models next year. Something that is not physically possible with the iPhone 15 Pro’s chassis size.
Why would both phones’ increase in size? No reason has been given, but I suspect Apple saw the gap from 6.3 to 6.7-inches as too small, and worried sales of its flagship could be cannibalized. Fans of big-screen smartphones are unlikely to be disappointed, especially with the range’s move to a lighter titanium chassis this year reducing their overall weight.
Moreover, Majin Bu adds that we are unlikely to see an iPhone 15 Pro Max next year, with a rebranded iPhone 16 Ultra heading the lineup. This naming was rumored for the iPhone 15 series, but it seems Apple has held off, and I suspect plans for further differentiation between the Pro and Ultra models will emerge in the coming months.
09/07 Update: AppleInsider has obtained replicas of the full iPhone 15 lineup, as well as their final color options.
The replicas align with recent leaks, with five colors coming to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus: black, blue, pink, white and yellow. Excluding black, the other four have pastel shades, which are more muted than color options in previous years. AppleInsider notes that they have obtained replicas from this source in the past, and they have been “spot-on accurate.”

Looking at the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the heavily-tipped but recently debunked dark red finish is missing, as expected. In its place is dark blue, which was long touted by insider Unknownz21, who repeatedly shot down suggestions there would be a red option.
In addition, the iPhone 15 Pros will come in silver, black and gray. AppleInsider reveals branding for two of the four color options, saying Apple will market them as Space Black and Carbide Gray.
The replicas also show two widely leaked changes to the iPhone 15 range: the move from a Lightning port to USB-C and the iPhone 15 Pros new Action button, which replaces the mute switch (still present on standard models).
What the replicas can’t confirm are the super slim new bezels on the Pros or the new periscope zoom lens coming exclusively to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They obviously don’t reveal anything about the internals of the new iPhones either, with leaks expecting new stacked battery technology, more RAM, an A16 chip for the standard models and a next-gen 3nm A17 chip for the Pros.
Leaks this close to release (Apple has confirmed a launch event on September 12), are typically accurate, and AppleInsider is known to have excellent sources. That said, we won’t have to wait long to find out for sure.
